Who are the finest Under-23 players in Serie A? Who has shone the brightest in the Italian top flight so far this season?
Sebastian Giovinco is in 8th position. The very fact that the ‘Atomic Ant’ is not sitting at the very top of this list should be enough to tell you that he is not having the best of times so far this season. Juve coach Ciro Ferrara may not be interested in giving the kid a chance, even when all his other trequartista options are unavailable, but make no mistake there is no other young player anywhere in the world with as much talent in their boots as little Giovinco has in his size 4′s. Dino Zoff, who’s seen a player or two pass his way over the years, reckons he has superior fantasy and technical ability than Alessandro Del Piero. Which begs the question, why isn’t he playing more regularly?

Small in stature but big in talent, Sebastian Giovinco is the rising star of Italian football. Tipped by many as the heir to Alessandro Del Piero‘s throne, the 22-year-old is learning his trade with Juventus. Yet, while the diminutive attacking midfielder has the football world at his feet and would be assured a starting place in the vast majority of line-ups, such is Juve’s embarrassment of riches that the youngster is being bedded in gradually.
Alessandro Del Piero has told Sebastian Giovinco that he’ll one day inherit the Juventus No 10 shirt – but he’ll have to be patient. The Under-21 international is a rising star in the Italian game and has inevitably been likened to Juventus skipper. And although Del Piero does believe that Giovinco has the X-factor, he’s going to have to wait for his chance. “I won’t be here in five years,” noted the 34-year-old. “But Giovinco will be. The future is his, along with Claudio Marchisio and Paolo De Ceglie.”
